Do business have to have badges and that have a Badge see people with badges looking for employment?
Great question! Individuals can share their badges with potential employers - this is a great way for business who are hiring to better understand exactly what a possible new team member can do.
I like this video.
It certainly sets you a side from the other candidates.
Thanks! We're glad you liked the video.
So glad to see Pearson taking a leadership role here. IBM is promoting their badges as Open Badges, but I can't find a way export my badges except as a flat image with no metadata. Am I missing something?
The badges that IBM offers through Acclaim are built on the open badge standard, but because most services that support badges in their native format do not offer intuitive or real-time verification, we have disabled Export and our Mozilla Backpack integration fall into these categories. As the risk of badges not being verified in real-time diminishes (and as demand for additional display properties increase), we will offer these again.
Thanks for reaching out to us with your question!
Thanks for answering my question. If I understand the open badges spec properly, Acclaim would be serving up the URL of the badge every time it was viewed. Is that not real-time verification or do you mean something else?
When a badge is shared to a backpack, you're sharing the status of the badge at that single moment in time. Real-time verification would require additional clicks back to the original issuer.
Issuers that we work with want to make sure the most-up-to-date information about a badge is instantly available - without additional routing from other sites - which is why Acclaim badges currently stay within the platform.
I'm not wanting to import my badges into a backpack. I'm a developer - I want to experiment with them myself. It sounds like what you're saying is that my IBM badges are not really Open Badges. It makes no sense to say they are "built on the open badge standard" if they are not portable outside of Acclaim. That's the whole idea.

This will allow you to retrieve the OBI compliant metadata (including badge image) using an API call. If you'd like to talk more about this aspect of Acclaim badges, we invite you to contact the Acclaim product lead, Mark Mercury: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ok, I'll take at look at the API. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
