Case study: Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Certification Program

8/2/2016

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) comprises more than 650 leading media and technology companies that sell, deliver and optimize digital advertising or marketing campaigns. Combined, they account for 86 percent of online advertising in the United States.

The IAB Certification Program launched in 2012, created out of marketplace demand. It is the first digital advertising program to earn accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Additionally, IAB Learning & Development serves the industry by offering education programs and classes in Programmatic Advertising, Leadership, Digital Fundamentals and more.

Always forward-thinking, IAB first experimented with static digital badges, but was soon challenged to find a more efficient way to manage and communicate the issuing and expiration of certifications, and for certification holders to easily share their achievements with employers, peers and professional networks.

Download this case study to learn more about those challenges, the ways in which Acclaim helped IAB progress its digital badge program, and the key results that IAB has driven.

Serving almost half of undergraduates in the U.S., community colleges have an increasing opportunity to provide students with effective, alternative ways to demonstrate workplace-ready skills. While transcripts and diplomas are long-standing, trusted validations of student achievement, digital badges can provide employers with a more detailed, transparent path of a student’s earned skills. Learn how four community colleges are using Acclaim badges to  serve the employment needs of local students and businesses.
Madison College Continuing Education
Madison College Continuing Education was an early adopter of digital badges as a means to recognize their students' work-readiness.  In collaboration with businesses in Madison, Wisconsin, the Continuing Education department defined badges to specifically align with skill gaps in the local workforce.  According to Dr. Jack E. Daniels, III, President, Madison College, "We are enhancing how we serve our students and our community by inspiring innovation and creating a new standard in non-credit continuing education." Edmonds Community College
Edmonds Community College offers 68 associate degrees and 58 professional certificates in 29 programs of study. The college is offering badges for skills learned through the PACE-IT Program, a self-paced, competency-based program that teaches the skills needed to prepare learners for certifications necessary for success in the IT field. Anne Arundel Community College
Anne Arundel Community College is an award-winning, fully accredited, public two-year institution serving more than 53,000 students each year through credit and noncredit programs in more than 200 areas of study and more than 2,800 courses. AACC offers badges for several types of learning activities including workforce development courses, workshop participation, conference attendance and faculty leadership. View Anne Arundel's digital badges.
Santa Barbara City College
Santa Barbara City College offers a noncredit certificate program to provide training to help individuals get a job, advance in a job and/or provide  the skills needed to grow a business. Training industry sees opportunity in badges for employees

8/20/2014

PictureAcclaim team member, Pete Janzow, speaks to the group of training industry professionals.
A couple weeks ago, the Acclaim team was invited to present at the Pearson Learning Leaders Forum in Chicago. The forum was titled The Power of Digital Badging in Professional Training and Development and featured three experts in the training industry who lent their unique perspectives to the topic.

  • Doug Harward, CEO and founder of Training Industry, Inc. discussed the evolution of the way companies train their employees and track their progress.
  • Pete Janzow, of the Acclaim team, dove into the technology of how badges work and how they can be used to recognize training and development.
  • Rupalli Thacker, Learning/Training Development Leader at Staples, shared how her organization is using badges to grow the success of their employees and of Staples, worldwide.
The gist of the session is this: influencers in the training industry are looking at ways that your employers can assess you more efficiently and recognize/track your learning outcomes more effectively. That’s good news for you! (And for them).

When you work for an employer who not only sees the value in providing you with new learning opportunities, but wants to  make sure your abilities are clearly communicated throughout the organization, you’re being set up to succeed.

And by recognizing what you can do with a badge, your employer ensures that you’re in control of that achievement. Wherever you go within the company, or if you choose to make a move elsewhere, your badge goes with you. Badges ensure that skills and learning outcomes aren’t just a moment-in-time but can support you over the course of your career.
